About Us
DUNAGS was formed on 24.09.2004 by a group of 55 members and their families in Dubai. What you will be witnessing hereafter in this site is all about a small section of Nattukkottai Chettiars living in Dubai, the city of Gold (to learn more about Dubai, please click here), and their social work Nagarathars , wherever we live, still follow the foot prints of our ancestors.
The word THARMAM was carved in all our mind, body and soul by them. So we, in DUNAGS, acquired the same as our motto. We assist the needy in our community back at home by extending financial help for the marriages or for higher Studies of their kiths and kin and also for medical treatment in case of serious illness. We get together every month to discuss the events and the requests sent to us from our home country. We greet the notable persons of our community when they visit Dubai and organize get together with them. We circulate Tamil magazine called VANAM among the members. We encourage them to use it as a platform to bring forward their talents.
All of us meet without fail on the auspicious day of Pillayar Nonbu and take Ilai. Chettiars remove 21 auspicious threads from a Kodi Veshty and prepare the ilai whereas Achies add savor to the event by preparing almost all the items supposed to be served on the day of Pillayar Nonbu. We have fun too. We organize day long gala events on certain holidays of the year, go together to a quiet place away from the city and spend the day with delicious and authentic chettinad food. All in all , far away from our home, we feel at home here in Dubai.
